Swaddling is a nice way to calm a restless baby. Our son was pretty anxious to get a move on before he was able to actually move anywhere, so he was quite a restless one. I'm pretty sure swaddling would've done him some good, maybe helped him sleep a little easier. We had a problem, though: we couldn't get him wrapped up so he couldn't get his arms free.

Of course, one can swaddle a baby with just about any old blanket, but it takes some skill. For those who don't have that skill, a ready-made swaddle blanket is an excellent solution. We have a second child on the way and as a part of the preparations, we've bought a Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe blanket. It's a perfect solution: a simple Velcro-fastened swaddling blanket that hugs the baby tight and snug.

There are different colours and three sizes: preemie, small and large, thus there's a suitable blanket for every baby. They're pretty cheap, too, and especially here in Finland they're popular enough that once we don't need it anymore &emdash; this is something that won't be needed for a very long time &emdash; I'm fairly sure we can sell the blanket and get a good part of our money back.
