Board game designs by Sampo Sikiö

Sampo Sikiö did the really cool redesigns of Preußische Ostbahn and Wabash Cannonball, but it doesn't stop there.

Go take a look at some real talent! His Flickr photostream has more pictures of his work and also general photography, while his homebrew games portfolio displays more of his work with board games.

The Winsome game remakes are his best work so far in my opinion, but there's more. He's been working on a board game version of the old computer classic M.U.L.E., and that game, L.L.A.M.A. looks awesome, too. His version of Medici is also really neat.

I don't know about you, but if I were looking for board game graphic design talent for a project of mine, I'd hire Sampo right away.

I signed up for an account for your blog to comment, but the confirmation email never came (just FYI).

Thanks for posting the link to Sampo's work. That is some very impressive stuff. I already have Chicago Express, so I won't be printing my own Wabash at all, but he did a spectacular job with that and Ostbahn. The Medici redesign is also awesome work. Well, it's all very nice. Good find.

Re: the confirmation email - not a huge surprise. Fortunately registering an account is not necessary, only slows down the appearance of comments.

I know I have very little reason to buy Chicago Express (not that I was planning to do so) now that I have Sampo's map - as beautiful Chicago Express is, I think I prefer Sampo's work. Also, I'm obsessive-compulsive enough to be driven nuts by upside-down train engines.

It's always a pleasure to know really talented people, especially when they put their talents in to good use. Now I'm off to convince Sampo he really needs to do remakes of Gulf, Mobile & Ohio and New England Railways as well...

He should do a design for 1800! It was magazine printed and totally impossible to buy or get one's hands on. I'd love to print my own copy to play (is that allowed when there's no way to get the game anyways?). That would be a neat one to see re-designed. Of course, it would need tiles etc also.
