Living with a baby

I'm keeping my personal life out of this blog most of the time, but now I can't help myself: it's been fun living with a baby! Nooa is a sweet boy. He's a month and a day old today, and already starting to smile at us and support his head all by himself. Soon he'll be playing games with me!

If there's something he enjoys right now, that's carrying. Today's count so far is five hours of carrying in a sling, mostly sleeping. A good sling (I recommend Hug-a-Bub, it's great and easy to use for beginners) is all you need to transport a baby. I suppose it's needless to say I don't believe it's possible to spoil a baby by carrying too much. Carrying is natural and good.

Well, that's all I've got to say about parenting right now. I'll continue later on...

We used a sling like that too. Babies are great! BTW Nooa Saari is a great name, but that's a whole lot of vowels! ;o)

Is the name Nooa linked in any way to the biblical name Noah?

Actually, it's Nooa Mäntynen. We named him after Johanna, it was more important for her. Nooa Saari would have a pleasant amount of vowels, that's true.

Yes, Nooa is the Finnish form of Noah. However, there's no intentional link, as I'm a devout atheist (a fact that casts Nooa's second name Elias - the Greek form of Elijah - in curious light) and Johanna isn't that religious either. It's just a nice name.

Besides, religious names are very hard to avoid in Finland (both Mikko and Johanna are biblical).

Well they are certainly good choices. :)

Enjoy carrying him around for lengthy periods while you can. One of things that newborns are very good is growing fast. From seven to twelve weeks Daughter the Elder added 50% of her body weight! We were travelling around the UK at the time and it was getting harder to carry her around at the end of the trip :-)

Enjoy! Once he gets too big for you to comfortably carry him, you have to wait for quite a few years for that next generation, which is even more fun to hold and carry (unless you continue to create little ones of your own). I enjoy being a grandfather even more than a father.
