Blue Moon
Olli M. was interested in playing two-player games during the summer. Since our baby likes to keep us waiting, I had plenty of time to meet Olli for games. We played a hefty session of Blue Moon. In two and half hours we managed to play eight matches, so both of us could play through all the peoples. That's a pretty good Blue Moon session to me.
It's still quite an excellent game. Most of the matches were really close, up to final battles. I think two of the eight matches went to tie-breaker, they were that close. Only one 4-0 victory was seen, which is rare. We did have few rather delicious long fights, with surprising twists and turns. Those are usually fatal for the loser, but to me that's what really makes the Blue Moon experience shine.
It's a really good game, after about 30 matches. It's quite expensive to get, I admit that, but I'd say it's worth it. The Buka Invasion expansion is one of the few games I really anticipate.

Hi there!
I used to play Magic: The Gathering and am looking into Blue Moon. How do they compare? I stopped buying Magic because it bled me dry. Will Blue Moon follow the Magic sales pattern? Does it play well with just a couple of decks? What options are there?
Thanks.
I don't think they compare really that well, even though many people draw that comparison. Blue Moon is more mathematical and dry; the cards have significantly less special effects and the amount of different combinations is a lot smaller than in Magic.
That said, it's worth trying. It might work for you. I don't know how well it plays with just few decks, and anyway, expect to buy all the decks, because that's what you're going to do once you're really into it.
It's nothing like Magic what comes to expansions. First, each expansion is single purchase. Second, there are only limited number of expansions. As I have understood it, the game was designed to have the 8 peoples it has. Adding more peoples would be pretty hard, so the possible future expansions have to be something else. If the game sells, there'll be more stuff, expansions and other Blue Moon -themed games, but I don't think it'll be a flood like Magic expansions.
