Diecast military aircraft
Perhaps you prefer military aircraft? Franklin Mint offers a large variety of 1:48 scale models of World War 2 aircraft. All the popular US planes like P-47 Thunderbolt, P-38 Lightning, F6F Hellcat... Of course, no collection of model aircraft would be complete without the likes of Spitfire, Messerschmitt BF-109, Heinkel He 111 or the Japanese fighter plane Zero.
If you enjoy the modern aircraft more, those are also available. Classics like F-14 Tomcat, F-15 Eagle, F/A-18 Hornet, you can find all those in the Franklin Mint modern military aircraft line.
Diecast models
Diecast models are made of metal and plastic, metal being commonly zamak or Mazak, an alloy of zinc and aluminium. Zamak is also known as "white metal" or "pot metal". Die-cast toys appeared in the 20th century, before World War 2, but the old ones are less known because their quality was weaker.
Lesney started producing die-cast toys in 1947 and their Matchbox series was an instant success. Another popular early brand was Corgi. Mattel's Hot Wheels, another classic die-cast car line, were introduced in the US in 1968.
Franklin Mint produces mostly collector's models in 1:24 scale. Most toy cars are made in 1:43 scale made popular by Dinky and Corgi. 1:48 scale is the most popular for aircraft and also used by Franklin Mint, as 1:24 aircraft would be too large for most purposes.
