Collector plates are a fun item to collect. Home décor plates look great and are easy to display with pleasant results.
When buying collectible plates, there are some things to remember. Having a certificate of authenticity and the original box included is a definite bonus. Finding fake collector's items in eBay is very rare, but certificates and original boxes increase the value of the item if you ever want to sell it.
Since plates are fragile, delicate things as all glassware is, make sure the condition of the item you buy is described well enough. Buying items without good pictures is begging for trouble, so make sure the item has a good, high-quality picture included and the item is in good condition.
When buying used collectible plates, you should also watch out for sunlight damage. Sunlight doesn't crack or chip the plates, but instead fades the colours. A plate that has been in sunlight for a long time might be described as in good condition, but the colors of the plate are not as vibrant and pleasant as they should be.
eBay auctions are a great way to fill gaps in series and find limited edition plates that are not available anymore from other distribution channels.
