Franklin Mint is a private corporation founded in the 1960s in Middletown, Pennsylvania by Joseph Segel. It started by marketing privately-minted commemorative rounds and medallions made from gold and silver, but branched to other collectibles soon. Franklin Mint was also one of the first companies to mint replacement slots tokens for Nevada casinos to replace the silver dollars that were removed from circulation.
Between 1973 and 2000, Franklin Mint produced hundreds of editions of classic literary works under the moniker Franklin Library. In 1983, Franklin Mint started producing die-cast cars, starting with the 1935 Mercedes-Benz 500K Roadster. One of their greatest hits was produced soon, a miniature of Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost.
