New web sites

I've been trying the eBay affiliate stuff. It's a fun system, and so far seems to make some profit, too. I've started three sites. The most recent is Metal Music Auctions, which focuses on the more obscure heavy metal available in eBay. Kids' Stuff Auctions pushes clothes and other gear for kids and Board Game Auctions sells games.

So far Board Game Auctions is the only one getting proper traffic and creating sales. Kids' Stuff Auctions is starting to get traffic, but hasn't made a single sale yet. Metal Music Auctions I'm just starting to link to, so that isn't doing anything yet. It'll be interesting to see how those two turn out. Board Game Auctions seems like a decent niche, and I've figured out some stuff that's selling pretty well, so there's certainly room for more profit.

I also started Mahjong opas, which is a Finnish site for all things Mahjong.

Facebook

My wife got invited to Facebook by her friends, I checked the place out (hadn't taken a single look at it before that) and found out I have quite a few friends listed there. Thus, I got myself a Facebook profile, too.

Interesting blog

A friend of mine, Phil Schwarzmann has a blog called Finland for Thought. Phil is an American IT professional living in Finland. His blog is mostly about politics, current events and culture. I certainly don't agree with many of his views, but it's interesting nevertheless.

Secret Santa and the first snow

Once again, it's time for Secret Santa. Everyone who participates must have a personal website and an Amazon wishlist. The organizers randomly select a wishlist for everyone participating. You check out your victim's website and then buy something from his or her wishlist. Someone does the same for you. It's all very simple and great fun.

Yesterday we got some snow, but it was already over when I left work. Today it was snowing properly when I walked to work. How nice, and the timing with Secret Santa announcement was simply lovely.

Secret Santa

Secret Santa 2003 is coming! It's about exchanging Christmas presents. Everybody who participates registers their Amazon wishlist. Then at the December 10th, everyone gets to know a person they'll buy a gift to. Thus, everyone will receive a gift from someone! What a splendid idea! The recommended maximum price for the gifts is £10 or $15, so it isn't that expensive, either.
